A few weeks to the big day?! Been sent 100 different hospital bag lists? Don’t worry this one is not super long, this is the stuff that the other lists probably forgot to tell you!
1. Formula starter pack – Often it can take time for the baby to latch or for your milk to come in. Formula powders are difficult to navigate in a busy hospital. Get the pre-made formula bottles, with pre-sterilised teats so you can feed them straight away.
2. Baby wrap star blanket – Eventually you have to get your baby to the car, and buckle them up in their car seat for the first time. We initially struggled as we had wrapped our baby up in so many blankets – we couldn’t get the seat belt on. I wish we knew about this star blanket – as it keeps the baby warm, but also keeps the baby compact enough to get the safety belts round them!
3. Newborn Hat – Often in the hospital they will put a warm hat on your baby in the first few days to help regulate the babies temperature. Normally the hats they give are too large and fall across the babies eyes. Get the right fitting one, that you know has been clean and looks a lot better!
4. Wet wipes – I know this is super obvious, but we were incorrectly given advice that newborns should not use wet wipes and in fact just cotton and water on their skin. This was a nightmare especially with the meconium (the first poo), we wished we used wet wipes right from the start!
5. Multi – plug socket with USB cables – Normally in hospitals you will only get access to one socket to change your phone, your partners phone, your iPad, kindle or whatever else you need! That’s why we prepared with our multi plug socket that allowed us to keep our electronics live and working throughout the few days!
6. Slippers or Flip flops – The hospital floors are usually freezing, and often can be slightly dirty! You need something easy to slip into, bring your favourite pair from home – or you can get this cool set!
7. The Car seat – this one is normally for you Dad’s! By law you need this to safely transport your child home! Ideally get one that can rotate so you can easily put your child in, without having to bend round in some weird direction. We tested loads, and highly recommend the Maxi Cosi Mica that comes with the Isofix.
